Our Story

Welcome to Aldwark Bridge Glamping — where nature meets comfort and memories are made.

We’re a small, family-run glamping site nestled on the banks of the River Ure, between the historic city of York and the beautiful spa town of Harrogate. Our journey began with a love of the outdoors and a dream to create a place where others could switch off, slow down, and reconnect — with nature, with each other, and with themselves.

What started as a simple idea around a campfire has grown into a peaceful riverside retreat. Whether you're paddleboarding at sunset, toasting marshmallows under the stars, or waking up to birdsong in a luxury bell tent, every detail here is designed to help you unwind and feel at home.

We believe in simple pleasures — good coffee in the morning, warm showers after a day of exploring, and a cosy bed to sink into at night. We’ve carefully thought through every part of your stay to bring together the charm of camping with the comfort of a boutique break.

Aldwark Bridge Glamping is more than just a place to stay. It’s a place to make memories, celebrate togetherness, and embrace the outdoors — whatever the weather.

We can’t wait to welcome you.

About Us

We’re the family behind Aldwark Bridge Glamping — a small, welcoming riverside escape in the heart of Yorkshire, built on big dreams and a love of the countryside.

We love all things outdoors — travelling, camping, paddle boarding, kayaking, walking, scouting, music, and gazing at the stars. It’s this love of adventure and nature that inspired us to create a place where others can enjoy the same simple joys.

There are three of us who keep things running, each bringing something special to the site.

Joanna is the heart of the operation — planner, organiser, and qualified reflexologist. With a background in wellness and a passion for helping people unwind, she ensures every guest feels relaxed, cared for, and right at home.

Matt, a builder by trade, is our go-to for all things practical. From crafting outdoor kitchens to chopping firewood, he’s the one who brings the family’s vision to life and keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

Tomasin is our youngest team member — chief adventurer, talented pianist, and proud Explorer Scout. A keen traveller, she reminds us what glamping is all about: freedom, fun, and meaningful family time.

And of course, we couldn’t do it without our two four-legged helpers — Paddington, our playful Golden Retriever, and Beatrice, our mischievous Cockerpoo — always ready to greet guests with a wagging tail and muddy paws.

Why This Place Is So Special to Us

a labour of love

It was right here, in this magical riverside garden, that Matt and Joanna first met. What started as a conversation over a water leak quickly turned into something much more.

One building in particular holds a special place in our hearts: the Old Pump House. This quiet, forgotten corner of the site became a shared project, a labour of love — and a symbol of everything we've built together.

We completely stripped it back, dug out the old floor, installed new drainage, re-pointed every brick, and re-roofed it with care. Every detail was chosen with intention — from the Victorian-style ridge tiles to the high flush toilet, from the custom-made wooden windows to the beautifully crafted door. We've honoured the building’s past while giving it new purpose as our luxurious shower room for guests.

This place is woven into our story. It’s where we first laid eyes on each other, where we rolled up our sleeves and got to work — and where we continue to dream and build, side by side.
